Where did they go?
Destruction of winter habitat.
Poisoning of milkweed, food source for the young caterpillars.
Insecticides.
Where did all the Monarchs go?
It breaks my heart that they are now rare.

You detail unknown or forgotten facts and details in your posts. I like that so much! I knew about the honeybee, but didn’t know about the Monarch.I’ll be planting milkweed next season!
This is so important, I found a milkweed finder for people do order milkweed for their area. I hope you don’t mind, I’ll link it here. http://www.xerces.org/milkweed-seed-finder/
Thank you! I pick up the seed pods and play with the downy part when I go into the fields and woods every fall but I’ve not had luck starting them from seed or transplanting it.
Beautiful image. I remember that when I was young, these beautiful butterflies were so plentiful in my dad’s garden.

Thank you, I love our (dwindling) Monarch Butterflies, they add a lot of color to early fall.
