The Twilight Darkens…

The Tide Rises, The Tide Falls

IMG_1364 Contrast copy
The tide rises, the tide falls,
The twilight darkens, the curlew calls;
Along the sea-sands damp and brown
The traveller hastens toward the town,

And the tide rises, the tide falls.
Darkness settles on roofs and walls,
But the sea, the sea in the darkness calls;
The little waves, with their soft, white hands,
Efface the footprints in the sands,

And the tide rises, the tide falls.
The morning breaks; the steeds in their stalls
Stamp and neigh, as the hostler calls;
The day returns, but nevermore
Returns the traveller to the shore,
And the tide rises, the tide falls.

~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

This is the dog beach last week when I caught a group of  visiting travelers brushing off the sand and ‘hastening towards the town’ in the afterglow of yet another astounding sunset. You can see the outer harbor light in the distance. The snow fence is to keep the sand in place.

    • Ah…Cornwell…a bunch of us kayaking Yankees are wondering what happened to the next installation in the BBC remake of Poldark. The coast was lovely.
