The Frauenthal
After the Symphony
This is Muskegon’s Frauenthal. She was built in 1929 as the Michigan Theater and billed as a “100% all talking motion pictures theater” for the princely sum of $690,000. That was a lotta popcorn back in the days before income tax.

that’s a beautiful place!
I love these old movie palaces. Many were knocked down to make room for parking or office buildings. We are blessed to have one here in Muskegon.
I love theatres, especially the ornate decor and heavy curtains. I feel I can get lost in the folds. It’s an interesting part of your city’s history. Thank you for sharing it. x
You are more than welcome. 🙂
I agree, theatre and stage sets can be incredibly ornate!
Great shot. They sure knew how to build theatres in those days.
I’ve done national tours twice as a performer. I liked big new theaters for their expansive room and technologies but I LOVED these Grand Old Dames of the early film era.
The old theatres like this one are ornate. I enjoy them especially when well kept.
She’s beautiful!
She is glorious. I am so glad that the community cared about her enough to care for her.
